Safran again

On Monday night, 9 pm on SBS TV, John Safran begins a new 12-week series called "Speaking in Tongues." Bob Mendelsohn will be a guest on the opening show in battle with Imi Weinstein, a local Orthodox Jewish man in Melbourne. Stop in for a watch, and let's see who else will watch it with us.

Hey Bob, I have a suggestion. Someone, other than yourself, should take notes and then post something to the blog.

Good idea, Geoff... let's hope when Safran shows this segment, that this will happen. God bless

Very sorry, SBS nixed that segment, so now I'm down for a reshoot on 4 January for a 9 January 2006 airing. More later.

Now Safran's people are saying it's a no-go for 4 January. Shame, they miss out. Alas. No, I'm not going to be on according to them, at this point.

I met with John Safran during the week and they said that alot of the stuff shot in the 1st week was dumped as they were just getting used to the format. John says to say hello :-)

Thanks Wayne for that update. Sorry they won't reshoot my segment, although they really should. I've cleared time for it if they (still) want. If you see John again, give him my best for 2006 (and have some yourself!)

God bless

why would anyone use imi weinsteing as a 'speaker' for Jews? he himself married a woman, jennifer, whose conversion to Judaism is highly questionable!

I don't know Jennifer, but John grew up with Imi's son and Imi has always had a big influence on John and his family I suppose.

Wait, why cannot anyone who is an Orthodox Jew, who identifies with and practices Orthodox Judaism, tout himself as an authority? They have no 'pope' do they? No bishops? No cardinals? Each Jew is responsible to practice Judaism as he sees fit, so I have no trouble with Safran choosing Imi as his rep?

Imi's arguments were weak about Jesus or conversion or proselytism etc, but he was a genuinely nice man.

>I would like to know why you think her conversion is "highly questionable"? Do you know his wife? Is the process of conversion to Judalism a difficult/easy process? I would have thought that its quite an involved process.. Surely they would'nt just convert anyone who put their hand up? I guess I don't understand why this post is questioning someone else's faith or commitment to that faith -I see a persons conversion to whatever religion as a matter of choice. Is her choice questionable? Only she would know that! <

Dear anonymous,
I'm not questioning the woman's choices or her commitment. Sorry you picked that up. May she and all Jews find eternal life in Jesus, our eternal messiah!

Bob,

The fact that you mention her by name, I thought you may know her - if thats not the case - you are questioning the validity of her conversion by posting the following > jennifer, whose conversion to Judaism is highly questionable! <
Perhaps it would be the right thing to remove this post.
Thanks

Life would be so much easier if people would sign in and not use 'anonymous' as their appelation.

As for Jennifer and her conversion, it's none of our business, or anyone's business for that matter. Her sincerity is a matter of her own heart and no one except God knows her heart and her motivation.

So, from now on, no more 'anonymous' folks, ok?
